Sutton Coldfield is celebrating once again after learning its prestigious Purple Flag status has been reaccredited for the second year in a row.
This weekend, the town centre will be illuminated in purple as nightlife venues light up to recognise the achievement. Selected venues across the town centre will also be serving a one-off set of purple drinks across the weekend to celebrate.
The accreditation, similar to the Blue Flag certification for beaches, recognises excellence in the management of the evening and night-time economy and was first awarded to the town centre in June 2016.
Areas awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for providing a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture, while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.
Mike Bushell, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID Manager, comments:
We’re thrilled to be celebrating the town centre’s Purple Flag accreditation for the second year running. The award is testament to the venues who work tirelessly all year round to ensure not only the safety of our nightlife offer here in Sutton Coldfield but also the vibrancy and diversity of the evening offer provided.
The BID, alongside town centre establishments and businesses gathered together earlier this month and raised a glass in recognition of this fantastic achievement, which further solidifies Sutton Coldfield’s varied and safe, evening and night time economy. Our town centre has a thriving nightlife with food, drink, a cinema and nightclubs all providing entertainment to residents and visitors, so it is great to be part of a national celebration of all that is great about Britain’s nightlife.”
