What is Purple Flag?

Purple Flag is an accreditation process similar to the Green Flag Award for parks and Blue Flag Award for beaches. Purple Flag status is awarded to town centres that meet or surpass the standards of excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy.

The scheme would bring about a comprehensive set of standards, management processes and good practice examples for Sutton Coldfield at night.

Applying for accreditation sets in motion a research, training and development programme, for the town to improve its evening and night-time economy.

Collaborative working is the key to the success of receiving the Purple Flag accreditation. The scheme is already receiving practical and financial support from Birmingham City Council and BID levy payers.

How can Purple Flag benefit Sutton Coldfield?

The Purple Flag scheme helps change the negative stereotypes often associated with the evening economy.

Accreditation for Sutton Coldfield would confirm the town’s night time economy as a safe, clean and exciting place to be when the sun goes down. It is a positive initiative that indicates an entertaining, diverse, safe and enjoyable night out.

Long term benefits would include lower crime and anti-social behaviour, cleaner/safer streets, a raised profile and an improved public image and improved partnership working.
